What is it

The New York Public Library has a braille and talking book library that also makes tactile graphics.

A pen and thin paper are enough

Put paper on a silicone mat and press with a ballpoint pen. The lines rise so you can feel them.

Thin copy paper can be felt on the drawing side, so blind people can draw it themselves.

How to draw

Keep it simple. No symbol smaller than a fingertip.

Show doors as gaps in the wall and the route as a dotted line.

Mark exits with their own symbol or in braille.

There is no standard set of symbols, so add a key.

Draw together

Sighted and blind people draw and fix it together on the same board.

Try at home

Draw the route from your bedroom to the door and the emergency stairs, then walk it.
