What is it

A New York State office for Deaf, DeafBlind and hard of hearing people. Its director is DeafBlind.

Vibration patterns tell you what is happening

Wearable vibrating alerts use different patterns for the doorbell, fire and carbon monoxide.

These are US products. In Korea, registered deaf people on basic livelihood or near-poverty support can get a signaling device and vibrating clock through the government assistive device program. Apply at your community center. Questions: 129

Feel the evacuation route by hand

In the US, some people learn hallways, stairs and exits on a tactile tablet from Korean company Dot.

The X on the back

A large X drawn on the back means "stop and follow me." Once is enough.

When guiding, let them hold the back of your arm or shoulder and follow. Pushing them ahead confuses direction.

Start every meeting with access

Meetings start with an access check. Say your name first and speak in short sentences.
